A Sensory Garden Program for Adults

Join us for a transformative journey into the heart of nature with our Immersive Garden Mornings! Designed for participants aged 16 and older, this immersive program will utilize hands-on experiences to foster a deeper connection with the natural world. Led by a knowledgeable member of our horticulture team, each session will offer a unique opportunity to engage your senses, explore mindfulness, and cultivate a sense of well-being.

Nature Mandalas

How much of your day do you spend indoors and looking at screens? The average American now spends 93% of their time indoors and up to 10 hours a day using technology. The more time we spend on our devices, the more likely we are to suffer stress and anxiety, headaches, mental fatigue, depression, eye and neck strain and insomnia. Spending time in nature can greatly improve our emotional, mental, and physical wellbeing.

This week we will observe repeating patterns in nature and create an artistic representation of mandalas with natural materials that we forage in the garden. Mandalas are repeating patterns built around a uniting center that helps the creator be mindful and reflect. The earliest recorded use of the mandala was found in ancient Hindu texts in India, but they can also be found in many religions like Buddhism and Shintoism, as well as Celtic, Native American, and Persian cultures. Come unplug and connect with nature this week at Immersive Garden Mornings!

Program Highlights:

  • Explore the therapeutic benefits of nature through guided observation walks.
  • Create a nature journal to document your sensory experiences and reflections.
  • Get hands-on with art activities using natural materials, fostering creativity and connection.
  • Learn about the science behind nature’s impact on physical, emotional, and mental wellness.
  • Discuss strategies for incorporating intentional nature experiences into daily life.

Additional Information:

  • Each event includes free entry to Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden for the remainder of the day.
  • Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a water bottle and towel for added comfort.

  • Cost:
    • $20 for Garden Members per event
