Opening Doors to Spring – Garden Exhibition
8 Jun 2023 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden is “Opening Doors to Spring”, an exhibit that illustrates Spring and the Garden by art students from Gastonia’s Highland School of Technology.
Under the direction of fine arts instructor, Marty Hutchins, the students were asked to complete works inspired by Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden and Springtime. Not traditional works on canvas, but on doors that could greet the members and guests of Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden as they stroll the garden paths.
The doors done in bold, bright colors and large designs are sure to catch the eye of all that come to the Garden. Varying in size and design from shutter doors to a glass-paned door, the students learned different techniques to paint on these surfaces to bring a cohesive picture to life. Incorporating the many things seen in a garden setting, big blooms, pollinators, wildlife, the students captured the idea of Spring in the Garden.
DSBG and Highland School of Technology have a long relationship. The school draws its student body from the other nine high schools located in Gaston County and boasts a rigorous academic and technology-based program that aims to prepare students for post-secondary education.
The Garden is pleased to be able to showcase the work of these art students from Highland and Gaston County.
Special thanks to Habitat for Humanity of Gaston County for the doors.
In gratitude to Pisgah Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church for their grant for art supplies.
