Join us for a thrilling adventure into the world of bats at the WINGS Exhibit: Bat Blitz on Saturday, May 4!

Hosted by the Environmental Education Department at Haw River State Park, this event is sure to delight and educate children of all ages!

What to Expect:

  • Hands-on Activities: Dive into engaging activities designed to help children learn all about bats. From exploring what bats eat to discovering how they’re adapted for survival, there’s something fascinating at every station.
  • Discover Bat Diversity: Explore the diversity of bats around the world and right here in North Carolina. Learn about insect-eating bats, fruit bats, and even debunk some vampire bat myths!
  • Interactive Stations: Visit four unique stations located in Lost Hollow – The Eye, Moonkeep, Amphitheatre, and Grass Circle. Each station offers exciting activities to spark curiosity and imagination.

Stations Include:

  1. Insect-eating Bats: Measure your wingspan, flap your wings, and try to catch “insects” in your mouth!
  2. Fruit Bats: Discover the importance of fruit-eating bats in rainforest habitats and try to “eat like a fruit bat”
  3. Vampire Bats: Debunk vampire bat myths and try to “eat like a vampire bat”!
  4. Bats of NC: Listen to local bat echolocation recordings and learn about the bats found right here in North Carolina.

Note:  Fruit salad, fruit punch, mini marshmallows, and other edible educational tools will be at various stations. Educators will have an ingredients list available for parents in case of any food allergies.
